How to use Add Page Numbers

  1. Drop one or more PDF files on the page or click to choose them.
  2. Set the footer and/or header text, e.g. “Page {n} of {total}”, and choose left, centre or right.
  3. Adjust size, colour and distance from the edge, the first number and which pages to number, checking the live preview.
  4. Click Number to process the files, then Download (several files come as a ZIP).

Supported formats

Input: PDF files. Output: a numbered PDF for each file (name.numbered.pdf); several results can be downloaded together as numbered-pdf.zip.

Limits

Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first. Numbers go in the top or bottom margin only, and text in scripts such as Chinese, Japanese, Korean or Hindi is added as a picture rather than real text; digital signatures are no longer valid in the new copy.

Privacy

Everything runs in your browser: your files are never uploaded to a server, and there is no sign-up.

Frequently asked questions

Can I skip the cover page?

Yes. Tick “Skip the first page (cover)” and numbering starts on page 2. Use “First number” to choose which number it starts at.

Can I add a header as well as page numbers?

Yes. There is a footer line and a header line, each with its own text and alignment. Both can use {n} for the page number, {total} for the number of pages, {date} for today’s date and {name} for the file name.

Can I number only some pages?

Yes. Enter pages such as 1-3, 5, 8- in the Pages box; leave it empty to number every page.

Are my PDFs uploaded?

No. The numbers are added by your browser on your own device, and the files are never sent to a server.

Does it work with Vietnamese or other accented text?

Yes. Latin text including Vietnamese, as well as Cyrillic and Greek, is added as real, selectable text.
